Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Wallsend, near Newcastle upon Tyne (United Kingdom)
ROLE:
To produce practical new designs to tight timescales in a supportive team environment.
As well as design, all staff work flexibly to cover all aspects of the production of relatively complex one-off machines.
The result is a varied job with varying degrees if responsibility, differing types of tasks ranging from initial design to machine commissioning, perhaps project management or customer visits but with practical design remaining central to the job.
DUTIES INCLUDE:

Produce conceptual designs from process definitions.
Layout design of mechanical/hydraulic machinery.
Stress and other calculations to support designs.
To work in multi-discipline project teams on specific aspects of the machine design.
Whilst being a specialist in one of the following you will also have a good working knowledge of at least one of the other engineering disciplines: mechanical, structural, hydraulic, geotechnics, maritime, nuclear, materials.
To be involved in the build, commissioning, test and trials of new build machines. This can involve working offsite/abroad/offshore.
Assistance with customer proposals and other sales activities.
Working with control and software engineers to ensure correct interfacing between different aspects of machines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of Upper 2nd class degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Sound understanding of engineering principles.
A minimum of 3 years previous post graduate experience in a design role preferably of low volume bespoke machines. A practical experience/background is essential.
Very good English.
An enthusiasm for engineering.

Keen to take on responsibility.
Clear and concise communicator.
Sense of humour.
